$1.54 billion for NSW roads

The NSW Government has committed a record $1.54 billion to the maintenance and repair of the state's roads and bridges over 2013-14
The NSW Minister for Roads and Ports, Duncan Gay, has announced a record $1.54 billion has been committed by the Coalition Government to the upkeep and upgrading of the state’s roads and bridges.
“In 2013-14, the NSW Liberal and Nationals Government has committed $1.54 billion towards the maintenance and repair of roads and bridges on state- and council-owned networks – this is the largest funding commitment for maintenance in the state’s history,” he said.
“This historic funding is not just benefitting big state-driven projects like WestConnex [pictured], but also small council works such as repairing a timber bridge at Captains Flat, upgrading the Lismore-Bangalow Road at Howards Grass or restoring flood-damaged roads in northwest NSW,” he added.
With 54 per cent of the state’s land mass, Western NSW tops the allocation list with $528 million, followed by Western Sydney ($217 million), North Coast ($203 million), Hunter ($185 million), South Coast ($184 million), Illawarra ($46 million), and Central Coast ($36 million).
Gay said the spend represented a 36 per cent increase on the comparative figure spent by the NSW Labor Government over 2010-11.
