380km range for Ford E-Transit Custom

Ford Australia has revealed specifications for its 2024 Ford E-Transit Custom, with the all-electric LCV’s headline grabbing being healthy 380km driving range.

Local pricing and full Australian-market details are still to be announced for the full-electric one-tonne van, which is confirmed for release Down Under but isn’t expected until 2024.

It will follow the larger Ford E-Transit, which has been pushed back until early next year.

The Ford E-Transit Custom has emerged with a 74kWh battery pack that offers a driving range of up to 380km – 63km more than the E-Transit which will launch with a 68kWh battery.

It can also be charged at up to 124kW using a DC fast-charger, reaching 80 per cent (from 15 per cent) in a claimed 41 minutes.

Ford says up to 38km of range can be added after just five minutes.

Where the electric Transit Custom can’t quite match its bigger stablemate is in sheer power; its single floor-mounted rear motor churns out 160kW/415Nm (compared to 198kW/430Nm).

The first thing occupants will see when they step inside the cabin is the landscape 13-inch infotainment interface oriented towards the driver and paired to a smaller digital instrument display.

Cabin room and ease of access were key priorities for interior designers, which is why the gear selector is mounted on the high-set steering column and the parking brake is now electric.

Ford says these particular touches “help cross-cab access” while an optional Mobile Office pack can transform the cockpit into a mobile worktop or lunch bench via the tilting steering wheel and dedicated rim insert.

Global spec highlights on the E-Transit Custom include full LED exterior lighting, a regenerative braking system, one-pedal drive mode, independent rear suspension, adaptive cruise control, a reversing camera, water-resistant upholstery and cargo area lining as well as ‘Ford Focus Mode’.

The latter only directs air from the climate control system to occupied seats and works in tandem with the ‘intelligent windscreen’ (automatic heating and demisting).

No payload or maximum towing capacities have been confirmed yet, but the cargo area measures 3450mm long and has a maximum volume of between 6.8 cubic metres in standard guise or 9.0 cubic metres when the high-roof option is ticked.
