Volkswagen's Amarok has been awarded the 2014 German Commercial Vehicles Prize – a bi-annual title held by German tradie media outlets Deutsche Handwerks Zeitung (German Craft Times) and Handwerk Magazin (Craft Magazine).
The winner was determined over two days of comprehensive testing, the evaluation carried out by manual trade professionals and business owners from a broad range of sectors.
The winner was announced by the President of the VDA (Germany's Automotive Industry Association), Matthias Wissmann (pictured, right), at Germany's IAA commercial vehicle expo on Friday, September 26. There the award was presented to Dr Eckhard Scholz (pictured, centre), Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.
The Amarok triumphed ahead of Ford's Ranger, Nissan's Navara, Isuzu's D-Max, Mitsubishi's L 200 and Toyota's HiAce, and now joins Volkswagen's commercial siblings the Caddy and the Transporter in claiming the prestigious accolade.
Dr Scholz said Volkswagen was thrilled to see the Amarok receive the award.
"We are delighted that one of our products has again won this award," he said.
"The fact that it is effectively awarded by manual trades professionals themselves makes us even prouder still. That shows us, after all, that the people who work day in, day out with a pick-up see the Amarok as the ideal tool for their trade."
The Amarok also recently won trucksales.com.au's 4WD dual-cab ute comparison test, which put seven popular models head to head both on the tarmac and off-road. Click here to read that review.
