Another successful Burrumbuttock Hay Run

The 12th Burrumbuttock Hay Run to help drought-affected farmers took place from February 23 to 26
Brendan Farrell and his dedicated team have run yet another successful hay run, this time to drought-stricken Muttaburra. The district in Western Queensland hasn’t had decent rain for five years and the local farmers are desperate.

One of the volunteers is Shane Bourke who is back for his second Burrumbuttock run, this time in a Mercedes-Benz Actros truck volunteered by Hartwigs.

The Rodney’s Transport Service driver participated last year in a truck provided by Hartwigs and grabbed the chance to get behind the wheel of a brand-new 2658 this year and brought his partner Barbara Konstantakis along for the ride.

"My brother Jason and I plan to do it every year, it is such a great initiative," Shane said as he neared Ilfracombe.

"I would have been grateful for any truck Hartwigs could give me, so I was blown away when they said I could take the new Actros. It’s getting heaps of attention."

Ron Crouch Transport lent Shane a tautliner trailer, which carried 40 bales of hay that had been donated by Wayne Williams of Whitton, in New South Wales.

Tom Anderson of Hartwigs said it was great to have a new Mercedes-Benz Actros be part of the convoy.

"We’re thrilled to be able to provide a truck for Shane and Barbara to use for such a great initiative as the Burrumbuttock Hay Runner event," he said.
More information can be found at the Burrumbuttock Hay Runners' Facebook page and donations can be made to the campaign through the Rotary Club of Sydney.

"Donations are to be made to the Rotary Club of Sydney as they handle all monetary donations on our behalf as we are not an organisation, just a bunch of blokes trying to help out a fellow Aussie in times of hardship," said Brendan Farrell.
