ATA election winners announced

Frank Black (Arcidiaco) of Durack, Queensland, and Leigh Smart of Melrose Park, NSW, have been elected unopposed as the owner driver and small fleet representatives on the General Council of the Australian Trucking Association.

Nominations and voter registrations for the election closed on February 10, 2015. Only one candidate nominated in each category, making a ballot unnecessary.

ATA Chair Noelene Watson congratulated Frank Black and Leigh Smart on their election.

"Frank Black held the role of ATA owner driver representative from 2003 to 2009, and again since 2011," she said.

"Leigh Smart is new to the ATA Council. His business, Formula Chemicals, specialises in the safe manufacture and transport of industrial chemicals.

"Leigh is an active supporter of the industry and his local community, and puts safety first in his fleet operations. His vehicles are accredited under TruckSafe and NHVAS, and are custom designed to protect the environment and his community by containing any chemical spills."

Mrs Watson also thanked the previous small fleet representative, Doug McMillan, for his many years of service.

"Doug held the role of small fleet representative for 21 years, and during this time was a marvellous supporter of the industry and the ATA," she said.

Mr Black and Mr Smart will take up their positions at the ATA Annual General Meeting on March 19, and will hold their roles for the next two years.
