ATA safety tips on Gippsland TV

As part of a truck safety campaign in regional Victoria, the ATA is airing its animated road safety videos on Win TV Gippsland
As part of the ‘Truckies Lighting Up for Safety’ road safety campaign in Gippsland, Victoria, the Australian Trucking Association (ATA) will be airing its animated truck-focused road safety clips on the region’s WIN TV television station.
The safety campaign, which began in January and is organised by the Gippsland Safe Freight Network, is urging truck drivers to turn on their headlights in an effort to reduce daytime collisions.
Campaign spokesman Alan Pincott said there had been a significant reduction in the number of truck accidents in Gippsland since it began, while stressing there was no room for complacency.
“Any crash is one too many,” he said.
“We need to keep building on this success and continue to improve safety on our roads.
“The ATA road safety tips on the TV have been really popular – we’ve had a lot of positive feedback from truckies and members of the public.
“These ads are critically important in getting the basic safety information out to the general public. A lot of people have been telling us that they just didn’t know about these issues to start with.”
The ATA’s truck safety tips commenced running on WIN TV Gippsland on Sunday, February 23, and will be aired for four weeks. They can also be viewed on the ATA’s YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/user/AustralianTrucking.
In another strand to the campaign, Nola Bransgrove from Traralgon-based transport firm Branstrans has sponsored a visit of the ATA Safety Truck.
Bransgrove said the truck, which highlights the issues faced by truck drivers from a road safety perspective, was a great complement to the local road safety campaign.
“I think there’s a great synergy between Truckies Light Up and the Safety Truck – they’re both trucking industry initiatives working to help people stay safe on our roads,” she said.
“In regional and rural areas, there’s an intimate relationship between trucks and the community. Everyone knows someone with a truck or someone who drives one, and trucks deliver everything to the community.
“Trucking operators are doing their bit, and now we’re asking other road users to work with us and help make sure everyone gets home safely at the end of the day.”
The ATA Safety Truck will visit Lakes Entrance, Bairnsdale, Sale, Morwell and Leongatha over March 22-28, 2014. Exact locations and dates will be released shortly – visit www.safetytruck.com.au for more information.
