Motorists in the Victorian district of Gippsland will gain an insight into the demands of driving a heavy vehicle when the Australian Trucking Association’s Safety Truck sets up at a number of locations over March 22-27, 2014.
The travelling road safety exhibition is heading to Gippsland to be a part of the final week of the region’s Truckies Lighting Up for Safety campaign, which has been urging truck drivers to use their headlights during the day to help reduce collisions and highlight the ‘invisible truck’ phenomenon.
The spokesperson for the campaign, Alan Pincott, said the Safety Truck was the perfect complement with which to bring Truckies Lighting Up for Safety to a close.
“We’ve had a really good response to the campaign, with a significant drop in crashes in the Gippsland area and a lot of operators turning on their lights during daytime running,” he said.
“The Safety Truck is an excellent tool to teach children and adults alike how to share the road safely. It will already be familiar to people as the talking truck in the animated road safety videos currently on WIN TV Gippsland.
“We’re committed to reducing the road toll in Gippsland. I strongly encourage people to visit the Safety Truck during its tour and find out how they can stay safe on the road around heavy vehicles.”
The Safety Truck will be appearing at the following Gippsland locations:
Saturday, March 22, 10am to 2pm, East Gippsland Convoy for Kids festival at Great Lakes Airport, Lakes Entrance
Monday, March 24, 10am to 2pm, on the Princess Hwy between Service and Pyke Streets, Bairnsdale
Tuesday, March 25, 10am to 2pm, at the Safeway car park on Reeve Street, Sale
Wednesday, March 26, 10am to 2pm, at the Safeway car park on the corner of Smith and Pearl Streets, Leongatha
Thursday, March 27, 10am to 2pm, Kay Street, near the Latrobe City Council offices, Traralgon
After concluding its Gippsland tour the Safety Truck will be moving to the 2014 International Truck, Trailer & Equipment Show, to be held at Melbourne’s Royal Showgrounds over April 3-6.
