The shining lights of the New South Wales trucking industry have been publicly recognised, with ATANSW recently announcing the recipients of its 2014 ATANSW industry awards.
Presented at the ATANSW’s industry awards dinner at Darling Harbour, Sydney, on Friday, May 2, the awards are given to those whose professional efforts and work ethic are underlined by an unwavering commitment to excellence.
The ‘Outstanding Contribution to the NSW Trucking Industry Award’ was given to Phillip Crook of Toll Group. Mr Crook (pictured, with red tie) has served in a variety of roles at Toll Group over the past 20 years and is a member of the ATA’s Safety, Transport and Economics committees. He was also a board member of the NSW Road Transport Association and assisted with the development of the ATANSW Policy Council when that body was in its infancy.
The ‘NSW Transport Woman of the Year Award’ was given to Lynne Jack of Hunter TAFE. Lynne (pictured) started in the trucking industry with working in admin at her father’s Volvo dealership. She took over the running of the business in 1984 and was elected as a member of the Volvo Dealer Council in 1990. She has raised over $1.4 million for charity through the Newcastle and Hunter Road Transport Awareness Day, an event for which she is a founding member, and today her insight and experience is passed on to heavy vehicle and plant apprentices at Hunter TAFE.
The ‘NSW Professional Driver of the Year Award’ was given to Barry Grimson of Unanderra Tanker Hire. Barry (pictured), who began driving for his father’s business in 1964, had dedicated his life to improving the conditions of his fellow drivers at Unanderra Tanker Hire. He was also involved in the initial stages of the construction of the Australian Truck Drivers’ Memorial Wall at Tarcutta and has participated in many Camp Quality Convoys for Kids.
The Manager of ATANSW, Jodie Broadbent, said the annual awards gave the industry an opportunity to highlight the efforts of some of its outstanding individuals.
“I’d like to extend my congratulations to Phillip, Lynne and Barry,” she said.
“We’re very fortunate to have such talented and dedicated people in the industry.
“To be acknowledged as the best in the industry is an honour. The winners of the ATANSW industry awards don’t just take home a trophy – they take home the respect of their peers.”
The winners are now automatically nominated for the National Trucking Industry Awards, to be announced at the ATA’s Trucking Australia 2014 conference on Hamilton Island on Saturday, June 7.
