
The latest TIC T-Mark industry data shows 22,083 new trucks and vans have been registered in Australia this year to the end of July, which represents a drop of 5.3 per cent of the same period last year. Sales in the month of July also slowed, with 3194 units recorded equating with a drop of 4.5%.
In the overall figures, Isuzu leads the charge with 5122 units year to date, which is a fall of 7.8% over the previous corresponding period.
Hino is next with 3155 units (up 1.0%), ahead of Fuso (2029 units, down 17.1%), Kenworth (1341 units, down 13.5%), and Volvo (1294 units, up 6.9%).
A total of 7457 heavy-duty trucks have been registered year to date, the figure showing a fall of 5.7% over this time last year, with 1035 units registered in July – a drop of 4.9%.
Kenworth leads the category with 1341 units (down 13.5%), ahead of Volvo (1278 units, up 8.2%), Isuzu (886 units, down 13.1%), Scania (653 units, up 26.1%) and Mack (634 units, up 3.8%).

In the medium-duty category, 4407 new trucks have been registered over the first seven months of the year, representing a fall of 6.4%. The category did record marginal growth for the month of July, however, with 632 units equating to a gain over the same month last year of 1.0%.
Isuzu leads the category with 1750 units year to date (a fall of 5.3%), ahead of Hino (1352 units, up 6.1%), Fuso (621 units, down 11.3%), MAN (399 units, down 12.7%) and UD Trucks (157 units, down 41.6%).
A total of 6552 light-duty trucks have been sold this year to the end of July, which represents a drop of 9.2%. The segment also took a substantial hit for the month of July, the 1034 examples registered equating with a fall of 13.5%.
Isuzu leads with 2486 units (down 7.5%), ahead of Hino (1461 units, down 4.1%), Fuso (1118 units, down 22.3%), Iveco (539 units, down 17.8%) and Mercedes-Benz (357 units, up 12.6%).
The light-duty van segment continues to defy the downward trend, the 3667 units registered year to date representing healthy growth of 5.4%. The segment also experienced strong growth in the month of July, the 493 examples registered up 13.3% on the same month last year.
Mercedes-Benz leads with 1558 units registered year to date (up 8.5%), ahead of Renault (620 units, down 18.8%), Ford (545 units, up 5.2%), Volkswagen (482 units, up 66.2%) and Fiat (247 units, down 16.0%).
