The latest Truck Industry Council (TIC) data reveals the Australian heavy vehicle market fell below the 3,000-unit threshold for the second time this year, with a total of 2989 new trucks and vans delivered in August.
This represents a 10.9 percent drop from July’s 3356 units, continuing the post-EOFY slowdown. It brings the year-to-date (YTD) total to 25,871 heavy vehicle sales through the first eight months of 2026.
Compared with last year, August’s monthly volume was 17.8 percent lower than the 3637 deliveries recorded in August 2025, while the 2026 YTD figure is 13.3 percent behind the 29,849 sales achieved over the same period last year.
The double-digit market contractions continue to reflect the commercial reality for transport operators facing sustained financial headwinds. Record-high diesel prices driven by the ongoing global oil crisis, coupled with broader economic tightening, are keeping fleet procurement strategies firmly on ice.
At the top of the overall leaderboard, Isuzu maintained its market lead, recording 759 total deliveries across the light-, medium- and heavy-duty truck segments. However, this was down 25.2 percent on its 1015-unit result in August 2025.
Mercedes-Benz secured second place overall with 335 deliveries, bolstered by its heavy van volume, while Fuso edged out Hino for third with 245 sales.
Meanwhile, Kenworth held firm at the top of the heavy-duty segment.

The heavy-duty segment recorded 1060 sales in August 2026, representing a marginal 3.5 percent dip from July’s 1099 units.
The sector was comparatively resilient year-on-year, slipping just 1.9 percent from the 1081 units delivered in August 2025.
Year-to-date, the segment sits at 8609 units, down 7.8 percent on the same period last year.
Kenworth retained its top spot in the heavy-duty segment with 210 deliveries, while Volvo continued its strong performance with 187 units. Isuzu rounded out the top three with 129 sales.
