The association of Australian and New Zealand road transport and traffic agencies, Austroads, has published the fifth edition of its handy guide listing thousands of common – and not-so-common – road transport terms.
The body's Glossary of Terms provides definitions for more than 2500 such words and phrases over 151 pages, with concise, easy-to-understand explanations for everything from 'A-double' to 'zoning'.
According to Austroads, the document – which can be downloaded for free in a PDF format – seeks to demystify and clarify the current road transport lexicon.
"The Austroads Glossary of Terms was developed to bring consistency to the use of terms and definitions by Austroads members and other stakeholders in the road and transport industry," states the publication's introduction.
"It also helps users of Austroads publications by providing supporting information for the terms used in the Austroads body of work.
"In developing this Glossary, a large number of reference documents were sourced from Australia, New Zealand and internationally. However, emphasis was placed on terms and definitions applicable to Australia and New Zealand. A reference list of source material was included in all previous editions of the Glossary."
Users of the publication can find the terms they're looking for with an easy-to-use search function.
