AZMEB solution for Qld council

Queensland's Bundaberg Regional Council says its new AZMEB High Volume Side Tipper is helping it achieve new levels of productivity in waste management
Queensland's Bundaberg Regional Council says its new AZMEB High Volume Side Tipper (HVST) trailer is taking its waste management and landfill programs to new heights, offering extra capacity and faster transfer times.
The council purchased the tipper late last year to replace its older 60-cubic-metre rear discharge compactor trailer. It now uses the AZMEB trailer to cart material between a waste transfer facility and any of five landfill sites dotted throughout the Bundaberg region.
The council's Manager of Waste & Health, Gavin Crawford, says maximising the volume per journey is crucial.
"The key to our operation is to maximise our efforts by delivering as much waste as possible per trip, which is why we need equipment that can hold up to 20 tonnes per load," he says.
The council was introduced to AZMEB after Tropical Cyclone Oswald devastated parts of Queensland and New South Wales in January 2013.
"During the clean-up process we came across a company using an AZMEB High Volume Side Tipper by chance, and we liked the fact it not only did the job, but that it could be top loaded with excess waste," says Mr Crawford.
Sam Priebe, Technical Sales Manager at AZMEB, says the trailer's extremely fast cycle time can unlock substantial gains.
"The HVST is unique in that it has the volume and appearance of two tubs on the one side tipper," he says.
"It tips very quickly and can be easily unloaded in just a matter of seconds. The time saved in comparison to Bundaberg Regional Council’s old compactor trailers could lead to an extra load per day."
The AZMEB HVST is a tri-axle trailer with a capacity of 85 cubic metres, and Mr Crawford says the upgrade immediately began paying dividends.
"Not only because it can achieve up to 21 tonnes of load, but because we can top load it using excavators, which could not be done using a compactor trailer," he says.
The top-loading capability also means the trailer can now be loaded at any of the council's sites regardless of each site's respective set-up – an aspect that simply wasn't possible with the older trailer.
"This gives us a major advantage in top loading waste from the nearby Qunaba waste facility during slower periods, which is a substantial benefit," he says.
"Overall, the AZMEB HVST significantly reduces time and, more importantly, equipment costs."
The new trailer is also equipped with on-board weighing technology and a portable wireless remote-control system.
"It's a very OH&S–friendly unit and means the driver doesn't have to get out of the vehicle at any time," says Mr Priebe.
"He or she can simply drive the unit into its destination and discharge the load using one button on a six-function remote control. We've also fitted the HVST using latest disc brakes and airbag suspension, together with a multi-volt EBS unit."

The AZMEB HVST is available in rigid, lead, tag and road train configurations, with cubic capacities ranging from 85 cubic metres per tag trailer to 120 cubic metres per B-double. Visit www.maxitrans.com.au for more information.
