Big Cat looming

Navistar Auspac says its new 130-tonne GCM Cat CT630HD is likely to break cover at the imminent Brisbane Truck Show

Cat Trucks is set to target road train triple operators with its CT630HD, a tough new model capable of GCMs of up to 130 tonnes.

Cat Trucks says there are "strong indications" the new model will make its public debut at next month's Brisbane Truck Show, without going into much detail regarding the truck's technical specifications.

Cat has said, however, that the CT630HD is the product of an extensive development program and that it comes in response to calls from operators of road train triples for a product capable of meeting their high-end needs.

Current CT630 models are limited to a GCM of 90 tonnes.

Like the remainder of the Cat Trucks litter, the CT630HD will be powered by Caterpillar's venerable C15 engine, which relies on twin diesel particulate filters for emissions compliance and therefore sidesteps the requirement for AdBlue found in engines with SCR systems.

The 'officially leaked' photograph shows the CT630HD to have a heavily reworked front grille, which Cat Trucks says boosts airflow to enhance engine cooling.

As for further details we'll just have to wait, albeit not for long – the Brisbane Truck Show gets underway at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre from May 14.

It's sure to be a huge show for parent company Navistar Auspac, which will also be using the occasion to promote the looming return of International Trucks to the Australian market.
