As part of the South Bank Truck Festival, strongman Troy Magnusson today entered the record books for pushing an 11-tonne truck over a course of more than 30 metres.
Troy was doing the feat to raise money for sick kids and explained after the event saying: “It’s all about the kids. That’s why we’re here. It’s about kids like Ava!” he said.
Troy continued: “It’s all about helping kids that have been seriously injured or diagnosed with critical illnesses like cancer and leukemia.
“Unfortunately, that is what happened with young Ava, at just two years old she was diagnosed with a rare form of Leukemia and subsequently lost over 98 per cent of her bone marrow.
“Thankfully, now five years on, she’s ok and in remission, largely thanks to the support Little Wings, Ronald McDonald House and Sydney Children’s Hospital offer.”
Troy told Trucksales that when he was a kid, he spent time in the Children’s Hospital, and he’s never forgotten it.
So, today, in the early-morning light, Troy set his massive frame against the odds to push the Freightliner to glory. And after one false start, the big truck, which was weighed before the event, started to roll down Little Stanley Street.
And with the crowd cheering, and the cameras rolling, Troy pushed the truck to what is believed to be a Guinness World Record.
Troy not only pushed the truck to the line that indicated the record but went a full truck-length further! But Troy told us after the event that the event wasn’t about the record: “I don’t care about the record, this is for the kids,” the likeable strongman said. “Without the kids, I wouldn’t be doing it,” he added.
Troy was aiming to raise at least $30,000 for the kids, but at the time of writing a total was not available.
