Biggest Iveco Daily lands Down Under

Seven-tonne GVM van breaks new ground for Italian maker's LCV range, and the Australian van market
Iveco Australia is bringing out the big guns in the panel van market, with its new Daily E6 boasting a seven-tonne GVM and cubic capacities of 16, 18 and 20 cubic metres, making it a worthy alternative to Pantech-bodied cab chassis vehicles.
The model was unveiled before the nation's motoring press at a launch event on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula, where it was showcased alongside Iveco's new Daily Minibus and Eurocargo E6 truck.
Available in two lengths and two roof heights, the Daily E6 is powered by a Euro 6-compliant 3.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel said produce 180hp (132kW) from 2800rpm to 3500rpm, and 430Nm from 1500rpm to 3000rpm.
The van achieves Euro 6 compliance through a mixture of SCR and EGR emissions control systems – a 24-litre AdBlue tank complements the sizeable 100-litre fuel tank.
Payload capacities range from 3924kg to 4064kg, while the vehicle also has a very handy braked towing limit of 3500kg.
Independent front suspension is coupled with rear airbag suspension with electronic adjustment, while a rear differential lock is available to handle instances of low traction.

A six-speed overdrive manual gearbox is complemented by an optional auto – ZF's eight-speed 'Hi-Matic' with Eco and Power modes, as ushered in with the introduction of Iveco Australia's last major Daily update.

The Daily E6 doesn't want for safety features, with the van boasting front and curtain airbags for driver and passenger, stability control, traction control, anti-lock brakes and hill hold assist, among others.
Iveco says the newcomer, which will be sold alongside its Euro 5 siblings, delivers increased performance and lower fuel consumption.
Iveco ANZ Product Manager, Marco Quaranta, said the van would open up new opportunities for the company in this region.
"This new Daily is the only van available in the Australian market with a seven-tonne GVM, and it provides up to four tonnes of payload depending on the model selected," he said.
"In terms of carrying capacity, these figures not only make it a market leader among vans, but they position it as a viable and potentially more affordable alternative to a light truck cab chassis.
"When you consider the cost of a cab chassis plus the cost of the body fitment, the seven-tonne Daily is very attractive and also has the benefit of being fully built and ready for work.
"When compared to a light truck cab chassis, the new Daily also provides advantages such as far superior safety features, a more comfortable driving experience and lower fuel use thanks to superior aerodynamics and more sophisticated engine technologies, while still providing the strength of a full truck-like C-section chassis."
Iveco says the Daily E6 is suitable for a wide range of roles, including general distribution, refrigerated transport, and even for the recreational vehicle market, thanks to its two front seats and walkthrough design.
