Following a successful trial, Borg Manufacturing – a manufacturer and distributor of melamine-coated medium density fibreboard (MDF) based on NSW's Central Coast – has expanded its fleet with the addition of seven Hino 300 Series Hybrids.
The company recently took delivery of one Hino 300 Series 616 and six 716 Hybrids, which have each been fitted with bodies designed to safety transport the boards and are decked out with Polytec livery.
Polytec is just one of several names under the Borg Manufacturing banner – others include Parbury, Symonite, APP and Dekorform.
The 616 can be driven on a car licence and is used for merchandising, while the 716s require a truck licence and are used for product deliveries.
Borg Manufacturing says the trucks average 250 to 300 kilometres per day, as they deliver to kitchen manufacturers across Australia.
Director Michael Borg says the Hybrids offer the high level of flexibility the business demands.
"We needed a truck that could be as nifty as a van but with the carrying capacity of a truck," he said.
"We were able to get that with the Hino Hybrid, along with strong green credentials and fuel savings with the hybrid system, and the convenience of its automated transmission."
Mr Borg said a two-month trial amply demonstrated the Hino's prowess.
"The truck received a lot of praise from the drivers for its comfort features and its handy turning circle," he said.
First appearing on the Australian market in 2007, Hino's 300 Series Hybrids boast vehicle stability control, antilock braking and dual SRS airbags, along with a suspension driver's seat and a multimedia unit with touchscreen and DAB digital radio.
Established 25 years ago, Borg Manufacturing employs 1070 people at its two facilities on the Central Coast and in Oberon, and it runs its fleet of around 100 trucks.
