If your truck is experiencing cylinder blow-by – excessive crankcase pressure – Brisbane-based firm Cost Effective Maintenance says its products can help restore correct operation and even potentially rule out an expensive rebuild.
"When you're faced with a possible rebuild, you need to ensure that your money is well spent," says Cost Effective Maintenance's founder, Brid Walker.
"Our advice is always to get everything clean first – then you know where you're at. Fortunately there's a very simple, low-cost, DIY procedure almost anyone can do that will fix your blow-by, if the engine is fundamentally sound."
Brid says using a combination of Flushing Oil Concentrate and FTC Decarbonizer can remove the piston ring deposits and cylinder glaze that account for around 80 per cent of blow-by issues.
"Over a period of 30 years we've noted that, conservatively, 80 per cent of engines that have undergone this procedure have recovered good compression control and eliminated their blow-by," he says.
For one example of the treatment's worth look no further than 'Toecutter' (pictured). Richo Jahn's Series 60 Detroit had 1,800,000km on the clock. It had blow-by, was down on power, using oil and generally running poorly – a $20,000 rebuild looked imminent.
Instead, Cost Effective Maintenance says Richo spent $505 on its Truckies Blow-by Pack, which soon produced startling results.
"After applying the products I was in awe at the performance I was receiving from the truck after a few hours of working," Richo wrote back to the company.
"The truck was running smoother, cooler, not using oil, and overall the performance is truly unbelievable!"
Cost Effective Maintenance says it has many more happy customers who will happily endorse its products.
