Fuel and lubricants heavyweight Caltex Australia has announced it's about to invest $5 million in its lubricants division, with a new storage and distribution centre in Perth complemented by upgrades to existing facilities in Brisbane and Melbourne.
Responsible for well-known brands such as Havoline and Delo, the lubricants, grease and coolants supplier will be constructing the new centre in the Perth suburb of Welshpool, and Caltex says it will strengthen the firm's WA supply chain significantly.
Caltex's Brisbane facility – said to be the largest grease manufacturing and lubricants blending plant in the country – recently benefitted from a $2 million upgrade, while its base in Newport, Melbourne, will shortly receive a $1.5 million upgrade. The latter will see finish product available in bulk, allowing Caltex to meet demand throughout Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania.
According to Caltex Australia's National Manager Business to Business Sales, Phil Amos, the expansion underlines the firm's commitment to the local market.
"The Welshpool facility will mainly be supplied with products from our Lytton manufacturing plant and supplemented by imports from Thailand and Singapore," he said.
"The site will be capable of loading the full range of trucks, from small rigids to B-doubles, ensuring efficient logistics arrangements for our customers, including the Pilbara- and Goldfields-based mining industries.
"Caltex is also investing in its back-end systems to improve customer service, including aspects such as ordering and invoicing."
