Cat dealer to host Qld roadshow

Queensland Cat Trucks dealer Hastings Deering is hosting a roadshow to showcase Cat's CT630S and CT630SC B-double specialists
Cat's new CT630S and CT630SC models are hitting the road in Queensland at the end of this week as dealer Hastings Deering embarks on a roadshow to highlight the new trucks to the Sunshine State's truck owners and drivers.
Kicking off on Friday, August 15, the trucks will depart the Hastings Deering Cat Truck Centre at Richlands in Brisbane for the inland city of Toowoomba, the tour then taking in major truck centres in Goondiwindi, Warwick, Aratula, Chinderah and Port of Brisbane.
A second tour will depart Hastings Deering Richlands on Tuesday, September 9, bound for Caboolture, Maryborough, Childers, Rockhampton, Emerald, Mackay, Bowen, Townsville and Cairns. The return journey will backtrack much of the same route but include stops at Gin Gin, Apple Tree Creek and Kybong, before finishing back at Richlands on Friday, September 19.
Both the CT630S and CT630SC have been designed specifically for Australian B-double applications but with GCMs of 90 tonnes they can handle a multitude of applications, including B-triple and road train double work.
Both models are powered by Cat's 15-litre C15 engine, said to produce maximum outputs of 550hp (410 kW) at 1800rpm and 1850lbft (2508Nm) at 1200rpm. Thanks to the trucks' advanced diesel particulate filters, the engine comforms to Australia's ADR80/03 emissions standard without resorting to SCR (selective catalytic reduction) or EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) systems.
The standard transmission is Eaton's 18-speed Roadranger but an optional Eaton Ultrashift-Plus automated manual is also available, the latter with Hill Start Assist.
In optimising both models for standard 34-pallet, 26-metre B-double applications, the cab was raised 50mm and moved forward by 250mm. This achieves a BBC (bumper to back of cab) measurement of 2845mm and results in better thermal and aerodynamic efficiency along with enhanced manoeuvrability.
The CT630S is available as a day cab or with an integral extended sleeper cab while the CT630SC comes with a mid-rise sleeper with 2250mm of internal width and 1975mm of standing room.
Gary Johnson, Hastings Deering Cat Trucks Manager – On-Highway Trucks, said the roadshow underlined the faith Cat places in its products.
"Taking the trucks on the road highlights our immense confidence in the CT630S and the CT630SC," he said.
"The existing models in our range, from the flagship CT630LS to the hugely versatile CT610, continue to do a great job in their various vocations but there's no question the 'S' and the 'SC' are vital additions to the Cat Trucks line-up, in particular for our Queensland customers.
"It’s also our way of demonstrating why we believe the 'S' and the 'SC' are not only ideal for B-doubles, B-triples and road train doubles, but highlight why we are absolutely certain these models will be a major force in the Australian market."
