Transport and logistics company Centurion has officially launched full operations at its groundbreaking off-grid battery electric truck project in Perth, marking a significant step towards decarbonising its fleet.
The company’s Perth Airport depot now runs two fully renewable-powered charging hubs, North and South. The North site was commissioned earlier this year while the South site went live last week, adding 10 more Mercedes-Benz eActros 300 battery electric trucks to Centurion's Hazelmere fleet, bringing the total to 30.
“This project is now fully operational, and it marks a significant milestone in progressing our decarbonisation journey,” said Centurion CEO, Justin Cardaci. “We’re not only reducing emissions but also providing electric trucks fuelled by green energy that can deliver a high-quality reliable service for our customers.”
Backed by $15.8 million in funding from ARENA through the Future Fuels Program, the $36 million project features:
Delivered in partnership with Daimler Truck, Cape Dunstans, Switch Batteries and bp Australia, the project demonstrates how collaboration and innovation can help transform the logistics sector.
Moving forward, Centurion plans to optimise the integration of green energy and electric truck fleet into its wider operations at the Perth Airport depot. Centurion and ARENA also plan to share insights from the project with the broader industry to encourage further adoption of green freight solutions.
