Australia's commercial vehicle media has sampled Isuzu's new telematics system at a press launch for the technology at Geelong, Victoria.
The technology was fitted to five Isuzu trucks – an NPR 200, an NPR 300, an FYJ 2000 agitator, an FXY 1500, and an FRD 600 – for a drive in and around the regional city, before the telemetry data was analysed back at the base for the launch, Isuzu dealer Winter & Taylor in Corio.
Developed specifically for Isuzu by Melbourne-based specialist Directed Electronics, the telematics system is available in two basic formats: Connect and Connect Plus.
The base-level Connect system offers a number of vehicle tracking and fleet management features and is available for all makes and models of Isuzu trucks. Connect Plus, meanwhile, utilises a truck's CAN Bus connection to provide a wealth of engine management data on top of the basic system's features. Connect Plus also integrates with Isuzu's DAVE (Digital Audio Visual Equipment) unit in Isuzu trucks produced from model year 2013 and later.
Isuzu bills the technology as ushering in the era of the truly connected truck, the technology providing an interface between the truck, its driver, operator, service manager and fleet manager that effectively allows a business to unlock a variety of efficiencies.
Isuzu Telematics can also be optionally complemented by a collision warning system from Mobileye.
