Freightliner's Argosy cab-over is now available with a wider choice of powerplant, with Detroit Diesel's DD15 recently joined by Cummins' X15 engine.
The addition of the X15 makes Freightliner the only brand to offer a choice of 15-litre engines for B-double applications, the company says.
An evolution of the Cummins ISXe5, the X15 is available in power ratings from 485hp to 600hp, with up to 2050lb-ft of torque.
Importantly, the X15 features Cummins' Advanced Dynamic Efficient Powertrain Technology (ADEPT) – an umbrella term that essentially comprises a suite of electronic features to reduce fuel consumption through better drivetrain integration.
The ADEPT system applies to Eaton's 18-speed UltraShift Plus automated manual transmission, which has been tested in Australia since 2016. It uses load, speed and grade-sensing technology to modify engine output and gear selection to deliver optimal fuel economy.
At the heart of the ADEPT package is SmartCoast and SmartTorque. SmartCoast sees the engine return to idle on moderate descents, while SmartTorque ensures the engine operates in its fuel efficient 'sweet spot'.
A telematics system, Cummins Connected Diagnostics, will also be available with the X15. Offering an array of features to maximise fleet efficiency and uptime, in the near future the system will offer remote engine programming and customisation, eliminating the need for the truck to be physically taken to a workshop.
