With almost a century of trucking history behind it, DAF is a well-known brand in Europe. It’s still gaining momentum in Australia but smart operators are already jumping onboard.
Indeed, with a line-up including the prime movers plus the CF range of 6x4 and 8x4 heavy rigids boasting industry-leading fuel efficiency, DAF has a truck to suit a wide range of applications in this wide brown land.
The new DAFs are powered by the PACCAR MX-13 engine. A powerplant earning an enviable reputation for a tenacious appetite to handle hard, heavy work efficiently, the MX-13 has the versatility to nimbly run urban errands as well.
The 12.9-litre Euro-6 PACCAR MX-13 engine employs ultra-modern-common rail technology, a turbo with variable geometry and advanced controls for maximum efficiency.
To comply with the strict Euro-6 emissions requirements, it features exhaust gas recirculation, together with SCR technology and an active soot filter. Furthermore, smart oil, steering and water pumps only deliver output that is matched carefully to the precise demand of the engine, in every situation.
The engines also provide additional power, known as multi-torque, at low revs in the two highest-gears for overdrive gearboxes and highest gear for direct-drive gearboxes and to support lower fuel consumption of the vehicle.
Operators can specify both CF and XF vehicles with 12 or 16-speed TraXon automated gearboxes. The TraXon transmission’s electronics system calculates the optimum gear to drive off as well as the optimum gear shift steps and timing based on the actual load conditions.
In addition, different shift strategy software applications are available for specific operating conditions of a vehicle application.
To further enhance fuel efficiency, reduce emissions and lower operating costs, fuel-saving features like Eco mode function and EcoRoll are standard and help the driver to drive more economically.
The new drivelines in the CF and XF ranges also feature highly efficient rear axles with low-friction wheel ends. What's more, a range of faster ratios enables lower engine speeds for fuel-efficiency.
Both the DAF Trucks CF and XF models include features that make the cabin an even more attractive and comfortable place to work, live and sleep. The driver gets treated to numerous innovations that make driving more comfortable, safer and more enjoyable than ever.
In this image-conscious world, the cabin front of the CF and XF models provide unadulterated business cards for its owner and/or operators. DAF Trucks stand out and there is also broad area for the company's name and logo available below the windscreen.
Importantly, the DAF Trucks CF and XF models afford the highest safety for the driver as well as other road users.
Undeniably, security is not just about systems that protect the driver in case of an accident. Safety also suggests optimum conditions for the driver to ensure a comfortable and relaxed drive. Reduced driver fatigue means that loss of concentration as a significant cause for accidents becomes more remote.
Systems like Vehicle Stability Control, Adaptive Cruise Control, Downhill Speed Control and Lane Departure Warning further augment a safe and relaxed ride. Meanwhile, crash-safe seats, integrated seat belts with a reminder system, and fire-retardant materials used throughout the cab provide maximum protection of the occupants.
Both the CF and XF cabs have generous side window and windscreen areas for an unobstructed view of other traffic and stationary objects. Large vibration-free mirrors give a perfect supplementary view to the rear, side or front, while the standard daytime running lights provide excellent daytime visibility for the other road users.
One of key technological enablers in DAF Trucks is Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). ACC overcomes the limitations of conventional cruise control systems. If, for example, the DAF catches up with a vehicle, the ACC moderates engine throttle and (if necessary) applies braking force to maintain a safe distance as pre-set by the driver.
Advanced Emergency Braking System (AEBS) further reduces the risk of a rear-end collision by applying up to the maximum available brake power if appropriate.
Inadvertent lane changes are prevented by the Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) by alerting the driver if the truck crosses the lane markings at either side to reduce highway departure accidents.
DAF Truck’s Electronic Brake System (EBS) provides fast and accurate system response with perfect brake feel for the driver, and – if required – maximum braking strength without any wheel lock-up.
For optimum vehicle safety, DAF anti-lock brakes (ABS), drag torque control (SMR) and EBS that features Brake Assist, are all fully integrated with the MX-13’s engine braking suite.
DAF Trucks might be new to a few, but they have a hard won reputation for competitive pricing and strong reliability.
Put it simply, you get a lot of capability and a lot of truck for your money.
Whether you’re an owner driver, a small fleet or a large transport business, the DAF Trucks CF and XF line-ups deserve a much closer look.
European prestige or a viable money-making tool? With DAF Trucks you can tick both boxes.
