Two new models have made their Australian debut at the DAF Trucks stand at the Brisbane Truck Show – the new LF range and an 8x4 iteration of the brand's XF105.
Powered by PACCAR's 6.7-litre GR engine with Euro 5 compliance, the new distribution-focussed LF series is available with 250hp in 12-tonne and 16-tonne formats, or – as displayed in Brisbane – a 280hp 18-tonne format, in this instance in a 4x2 configuration with 12-pallet curtain-sider body.
A ZF AS Tronic six-speed automated manual transmission is standard across the range, while an optional nine-speed manual is also available.
Running disc brakes all round and an electronic braking system with ABS and traction control, the new LF also features hill start assist and front and rear under-run protection, while a driver's airbag and seatbelt pre-tensioners are factory options.
DAF's SR 1132 air-suspended rear axle smooths the ride, while the truck boasts a 430-litre fuel tank with 70-litre AdBlue tank.
The model has a sleek new exterior and an all-new interior, with easy-to-read instrumentation that now incorporates a Driver Performance Assistant. This sees fuel economy and braking performance data, along with a range of other information, displayed on a 12.7cm screen.
A 160cm day cab is backed up by a 200cm sleeper cab, with both cabs sharing a compact 213cm width.
PACCAR Australia’s Director of Sales and Marketing, Andrew Hadjikakou, said the LF was blazing a trail for others to follow.
"DAF is a leader in innovation – the latest DAF models are brimming with technology, safety features and driving aids designed to make life on the road safer, more efficient and, overall, more enjoyable for the driver," he said.
"The latest Euro 5 LF range is clear evidence of the direction the DAF brand is heading in this regard."
Also on the DAF Trucks stand was the new FAD XF105, a variant of DAF's flagship XF105 and with the same engine and transmission, but in an 8x4 format to suit a range of vocational applications.
Riding on Meritor MT23-165 tandem rear axles with Airglide 400 suspension, the FAD XF105 has a 7100mm wheelbase and is equipped with DAF's Comfort Cab.
"It's sure to please some of the more unique applications of our Australian landscape," said DAF Trucks Australia General Manager, Robert Griffin.
