Daimler Truck opens new parts warehouse

New dedicated facility to solely service Daimler truck brands while meeting stringent sustainability objectives

Daimler Truck Australia Pacific has cut the ribbon on a new parts warehouse in Melbourne, with the new facility dedicated to supporting the Mercedes-Benz, Fuso and Freightliner truck brands, as well as Alliance Truck Parts.

Situated in the logistics hub of Truganina in Melbourne’s western suburbs, the 30,000 square metre site takes over from a facility that was previously shared with Mercedes-Benz passenger cars.

The new warehouse boasts 20,000 square metres of floorspace

The warehouse itself has floor space of 20,000 square metres while the building is rated at five stars for sustainability, boasting a massive solar array with the potential to produce 125,000kWh annually, a 45,000-litre rainwater tank, motion-sensing LED lights, double-glazed windows, and EV charging stations.

The warehouse features four recessed loading docks, 70,000 individual bin locations, a 4200 square metre two-level mezzanine and a 440 square metre office. Customised racking can accommodate large truck cabs, while a 3300 square metre awning provides weather protection for the loading and unloading of parts. A high-clearance section of the site provides additional pallet storage up to 10m in height.

Daimler Truck says the warehouse has the capacity to despatch up to 1500 parts per day.

Raising the bar

The facility was recently opened by Head of Daimler Truck Overseas, Andreas von Wallfeld; DB Schenker Australia and New Zealand Cluster CEO, Craig Davison; and Daimler Truck Australia Pacific President and CEO, Daniel Whitehead.

“This dedicated truck and bus parts warehouse is at the centre of our commitment to our customers across Australia and New Zealand,” says Mr Whitehead.

“It will allow us to better meet their specific needs, which are very different to those of passenger car customers.”

Mr Whitehead also says the warehouse aligns with Daimler Truck’s sustainability goals.

“It was a great opportunity to specify a design that incorporated a raft of environmental elements ranging from double-glazed windows to an impressive solar power array,” he says.

“Daimler Truck is a sustainability leader with our pioneering fully electric Fuso eCanter and Mercedes-Benz eActros and eEconic trucks, so it is only fitting that our parts warehouse is designed accordingly.”

Superior service

According to Daimler Truck Australia Pacific Aftersales and Network Operations Vice President, Antonio Briceño, the new facility will further enhance the customer experience across the Daimler Truck brands.

“This state-of-the-art, five-star-energy-rated facility, with a layout designed for efficiency, enables us to best support our customers now and well into the future,” he says.

“We are very excited to continue our partnership with DB Schenker, who will operate the new facility. Their considerable global experience and resources will no doubt set us up to deliver the best possible service to our customers.”
