Sales are heading north at Daimler Trucks, the German truck giant selling around 484,200 vehicles across its various platforms and brands in 2013.
The figure represents growth of five per cent over the corresponding period for the previous year, when 462,000 vehicles were sold, and is also the highest recorded by the group since 2006.
The group also announced a slight increase in stable revenues in 2013 of Euro 31.5 billion (Euro 31.4 billion in 2012) and earnings of Euro 1.75 billion (Euro 1.7 billion in 2012).
Dr Wolfgang Bernhard, Member of the Daimler Board of Management with responsibility for trucks and buses, said the strong result was paving the way for future prosperity.
“We accomplished what we planned for 2013 and we will remain on course for success in 2014,” he said.
Bernhard said he remained cautiously optimistic for 2014.
“We began the new year as we expected to,” he said.
“Our products have won over customers by offering them the lowest total cost of ownership in the sector. I’m therefore optimistic that we will remain on course for success in 2014 and move a good step closer toward achieving our medium-term targets.”
Sales of Daimler trucks rose by 14 per cent in Europe while they stabilised in North America. Sales also rose by one third in Brazil and by 10 per cent in Japan, while demand for new trucks was sluggish in India.
Daimler Trucks says it’s on track for sales to exceed 500,000 units in 2015 and reach 700,000 units annually in 2020.
