Transport and logistics specialist DB Schenker has thrown its support behind one man’s quest to raise money for UNICEF and raise awareness of the importance children’s education – by flying his hot air balloon across 100 countries.
New Zealander Andrew Parker estimates his journey will span four years and take him to over 200 schools, where he’ll meet over 80,000 school kids along the way. Parker hopes his ‘Flying High for Kids World Balloon Project’ will raise over $US1 million for not-for-profit UNICEF, whose work is helping around 57 million children around the globe who are currently without access to basic education.
DB Schenker recently donated its services by air-freighting the hot air balloon from New Zealand to Brisbane, Queensland.
From there Parker has ‘dropped in’ on Ferny Grove High School (pictured), South Grafton Public School, and Canberra’s ‘Balloon Spectacular’, in a journey that commenced at Auckland’s Balmoral School last December.
The adventure will also take in Asia, Africa and South America, eventually concluding in Chile in 2017.
Parker has thanked DB Schenker for its support of the project, which for him represents the realisation of a childhood dream.
“DB Schenker has made the logistics of freighting the balloon and truck for the Flying High For Kids World Balloon Project easy,” he said.
“The freight has been on time with a minimum of fuss. I have had so much support from the team at a number of the Schenker offices around the world and nothing is too much hassle. It is nice to not have to worry about the freight when I have so many other things to organise with the project. Thanks very much for your continued support, DB Schenker.”
