Logistics specialist DB Schenker is counting down to the opening of its major new freight facility in Redbank, west of Brisbane.
Due to open in the first week of July, the 31,400sqm distribution centre is a part of the new 62ha, $350 million Redbank Motorway Estate, where DB Schenker is the first firm to take up residence.
The new estate will provide around 2300 jobs, with the DB Schenker facility to account for 120 positions.
According to DB Schenker's Queensland Operations Manager, Kip Sandercock (pictured left, with Tony Wenham of myfreightcareer and Ipswich Mayor Paul Pisasale), the new venture will give the local employment market a welcome boost.
"The new facility has enabled us to commit to a program offering with up to 40 traineeships," he said.
"Those who complete the program can expect to gain a Certificate 3 in Warehouse Operations and other valuable workplace skills. The initiative has the full support of DB Schenker Australia CEO Ron Koehler and its Directors.”
Mayor Pisasale also praised the venture.
"This is a most significant thing, not just for Ipswich but Australia," he said.
"It [DB Schenker] is a worldwide company which will be putting 40 young people straight into traineeships. You don't get a better result than that. Youth unemployment is a problem everywhere in the country and we're working to get it down. Governments and companies should be looking at ways to do what this company is doing."
