DTNA to add DD5 and DD8 engines

Daimler Trucks North America has announced it will offer two new medium-duty Detroit Diesel engines from 2016
Daimler Trucks North America will offer two new medium-duty Detroit Diesel engines across its US product portfolio from 2016.
Announced at the recent American Trucking Associations’ Management Conference & Exhibition in San Diego, California, the move will see Detroit's new DD5 and DD8 powerplants available in Freightliner and Western Star truck models, as well as Thomas Built Buses and Freightliner Custom Chassis vehicles.
The newcomers will join the DD13, DD15 and DD16 (pictured) in Detroit's line-up.
The engines will be produced at Daimler's powertrain facility in Mannheim, Germany, before production shifts to North America in 2018.
According to DTNA's President and CEO, Martin Daum, the new additions will only enhance the company's competitiveness.
"Detroit medium-duty engines will provide what no other manufacturer in North America can offer – a total vehicle solution that matches Daimler’s global engineering prowess with the most complete product line-up bar none in the industry," he said.
Developed in both Europe and the US, DTNA says the new engines are a part of "Daimler Trucks' Global Excellence Strategy to have uniform production standards and processes worldwide".
DTNA also says the new engines will meet the EPA's GHG17 emissions standards early, as indeed will its full product line-up.
