Mercedes-Benz Trucks will be highlighting its expertise in electrification at the upcoming Brisbane Truck Show, with the brand’s fully electric eEconic to make its Australian debut in addition to a 4x2 rigid eActros.
The diesel-engined Econic, a truck well suited to applications like waste collection, was designed from the ground up for operating in urban areas, so it already lists superb vision, practicality and some clever active safety features among its benefits.
Now, in the all-electric eEconic, those benefits have expanded to include a clean-running, zero-tailpipe-emission drivetrain, which also delivers near-silent operation.
The eEconic that will feature on the Daimler Truck Stand at the Brisbane Truck Show will also be part of a validation trial that will soon take place in Australia and New Zealand.
Mercedes-Benz Trucks Australia Pacific Director, Andrew Assimo, said he’s looking forward to presenting the eEconic in Brisbane.
“We can’t wait to present the eEconic, a clean, quiet and safe electric truck that is perfectly suited to operating in high density areas,” he says.
“There is a lot of anticipation about our fully electric eEconic and eActros and we are excited to be able to have them on our stand in Brisbane before they get to work as part of our validation trial.”
Production of the eEconic began last year at the Mercedes-Benz Trucks factory in Worth, Germany.
The eEconic uses much the same electric drivetrain as the eActros. It has been designed to cover the vast majority of typical waste collection routes operated by an Econic in a single shift without requiring intermediary charging.
The electric drivetrain affords a level cab floor, allowing easy movement through the cab. This is particularly advantageous when the driver wishes to leave the vehicle through the folding door on the co-driver’s side, well away from traffic.
Following on from the introduction of the Fuso eCanter in Australia in 2021, the arrival of the eEconic represents yet another step for Daimler Truck on its path to CO2-neutral transport. Daimler Truck is pursuing the goal of putting CO2-neutral transport on the roads by 2050 and will only sell CO2-neutral vehicles in North America, Europe and Japan from 2039 onwards.
The Brisbane Truck Show will be held from May 18 to 21 at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
