These groundbreaking trucks, which produce zero local emissions, are the stars of the Mercedes-Benz stand at Brisbane’s Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The electric eActros is focused on heavy-duty short radius distribution and development trucks have been working away in fleets in Europe since 2018.
The electric eEconic adds to the positives of the diesel Econic, which was developed from the ground-up to work in densely populated areas and is known for its excellent vision, practicality and active safety features.
Both trucks are technology leaders and have impressed European customers with their advanced design, strong performance and efficiency.
Mercedes-Benz Trucks Australia will soon begin a local validation program for both trucks.
Daimler Truck already has considerable experience with electric trucks in Australia. It was the first manufacturer to launch an all-electric truck when Fuso introduced the pioneering eCanter locally in 2021.
The eCanter went on to win the Trucksales Innovation Award 2022.
Mercedes-Benz Trucks Australia Pacific Director, Andrew Assimo, says he is thrilled to present the eActros and eEconic in Australia.
“The local debut of the eActros and eEconic represent the start of a new chapter for sustainable road transport in our region and the excitement around both of these vehicles is unprecedented,” said Mr Assimo at the Truck Show.
“The innovative eActros and eEconic will help our customers reduce transport carbon emissions in a practical way. We know the drivers will also welcome them because anyone who has had a taste of these incredible trucks comes away with a smile on their face,” Mr Assimo added.
The eActros and eEconic validation program is designed to ensure the eActros specification is tailored for the unique conditions of Australia and New Zealand and meets the specific requirements of local customers.
Initially, four eActros trucks will get to work in Australia and one unit will hit the road in New Zealand, with additional units to follow. Two eEconic trucks will operate in Australia as part of the test program and one in New Zealand.
While Mercedes-Benz Trucks is keen to move forward with battery electric technology, it is also proud to help traditional internal combustion engine customers drive down their emissions.
Mercedes-Benz Trucks led the way in Australia with the first full range of Euro 6 heavy trucks with the new Actros in 2016 and its remarkable fuel efficiency is renowned across the industry. It extended its leadership at the Brisbane Truck Show when it announced the OM471 13-litre Actros engine will now deliver fuel cuts of up to four per cent thanks to a raft of improvements.
