We had our suspicions that driving a V8 Supercars race team transporter was one of the best truck driving jobs in Australia, and it seems we were right…

Erebus Motorsport V8 Logistics Manager, Wayne Cowper, reckons he gets to travel the length and breadth of the country in the team's Mercedes-Benz Actros 2660 B-double, which hauls everything the outfit needs from the race cars themselves to tools, equipment and more.

Erebus Motorsport V8 recently gave truck and V8 Supercar fans a sneak behind-the-scenes peek into Wayne's world (pardon the pun) by releasing a YouTube clip detailing the job at hand and the team's beautifully presented Actros.

"We don't do a huge amount of kilometres each year in a truck driving sense but we get all around the country and there's a lot of variety, so it's a pretty good number," says Wayne, who is also pretty happy to find himself in such a premium rig.

"The Actros is set up for driver comfort; it's a really quiet and smooth truck to drive and it's pretty effortless, being an automatic. You can drive it in manual but in auto it does everything for you."

Wayne says the truck's 600hp handles the 60-tonne travelling weight with ease.

"It does it fairly easy," he says.

"It's a 16-litre V8, so it fits the bill for the V8 Supercars!"

And rest assured Wayne isn't slacking off once he's reached each V8 Supercars round – there no kicking back in the stands with a cold one once Lee Holdsworth's and Will Davison's E63 AMG Mercs have been delivered to the track…

"We do a bit of motor racing, which is a good thing, and spend a bit of time in the workshop – so my weeks are split between three different roles," he says.

"I'm a truck driver at heart and I love being out on the road, but this job gives me a bit of variety. It's an interesting job and every day is a different challenge."
