As previewed on trucksales.com.au several weeks ago, three Adtrans truck dealerships have now revealed an exclusive limited-edition Freightliner Argosy. Built to help celebrate the brand's 25th anniversary of Australian operations, just 25 examples of the Argosy LE will be produced, with the trucks to be sold through the Adtrans network's three Daimler-focused dealerships: Stillwell Trucks Sydney; Daimler Trucks Adelaide; and Whitehorse Truck Centre in Melbourne.
The collaboration has resulted an Argosy with plenty of extra sparkle both inside and out, with the trucks all modified at Stillwell Trucks Sydney to ensure consistency.
Externally the Argosy LE features a FUPS-approved full alloy bumper, the lower section proudly bearing Freightliner 25th anniversary badging and an upgraded lighting package including LED driving lights and puddle lights. The puddle lights illuminate the ground underneath the front corners of the bumper, also projecting the name 'Argosy LE'.
The major transformation, however, lies within the cab's interior. Here designers have aimed for a finish more readily associated with a luxury car, with individually crafted dashboard components and soft-touch fabrics. The seats have been reupholstered with a superior foam and covered in a mix of leather and Alcantara.
The cabin and engine tunnel feature better insulation for a quieter, more comfortable ride, while cherry wood trim has been used on the doors and around the controls and gauges, the latter also sporting chrome bezels.
When it's time to pull up the driver can grab some sleep in what Adtrans describes as "the largest bunk on the road", complete with inner-spring mattress.
trucksales.com.au recently paid a visit to Melbourne's Whitehorse Truck Centre to take a closer look at the Argosy LE. There we spoke with Alex Duncan, General Manager for the dealership.
"It's an upgrade – it's for people looking for that little bit more," he said.
"Freightliner released 25 [limited-edition] Coronados earlier this year. They chose to go down the Coronado route; we've chosen to go down the Argosy route."
Mr Duncan said the Argosy LE had been met with a very positive response.
"To be honest, everybody's who's looked at it has loved it," he said.
As the only American alternative to the cab-over Kenworth, the Argosy LE is primarily being pitched at owner-drivers in the B-double market. Mr Duncan says exact pricing for the model will be announced shortly.
"Once we have complete costings we will be in a position to provide customers with accurate pricing, estimated at around 10 per cent more than a standard Argosy," he said.
"That's not a lot more for what you get."
The Argosy Limited Edition is powered by a Detroit DD15 engine.
The Freightliner Argosy LE is available at the following locations: Stillwell Trucks Sydney, 20A Ashford Avenue, Milperra NSW 2214; Daimler Trucks Adelaide, Cnr South Road and Aruma Street, Regency Park SA 5010; and Whitehorse Truck Centre, 75 Princes Highway, Dandenong South VIC 3175.
