The Australian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) has awarded the new Isuzu UTE D-MAX a full five-star safety rating, with every model in the 20-strong range gaining the maximum rating based on the stringent new 2020 ANCAP criteria.
Available in dual-cab, single-cab, and space cab formats and both 4x2 and 4x4 drivelines, the new third-generation Isuzu D-MAX comes bristling with an array of active and passive safety features. The extensive list includes a first-in-class centre front airbag that helps prevent front occupants' heads colliding in the event of a side impact.
The 2021 Isuzu D-MAX safety features include:
Many of the features are packaged under Isuzu's Intelligent Driver Assistance System (IDAS), which is standard across the range and which brings together numerous safety features with a variety of driver assistance aids.

Isuzu UTE says the new D-MAX "represents the pinnacle of safety in the ute category", and now ANCAP is backing that claim.
"The D-MAX rating has been highly anticipated by fleet and private buyers, and re-establishes the safety benchmark for the competitive ute segment where the introduction of safety features has tended to lag that of passenger cars and SUVs," said ANCAP Director – Communications & Advocacy, Rhianne Robson.
"With the new challenges set by ANCAP from 2020, it is extremely pleasing to see manufacturers achieve good results against these increasing standards, and take responsibility by prioritising safety to provide their customers with the safest vehicles they can."
The new testing criteria encompasses an increase to the speed and mass of the striking vehicle in the side impact test, along with new Far-Side Occupant Protection tests.
Isuzu UTE Australia Managing Director, Hiroyasu Sato, said he was very pleased with the ANCAP result.
"Safety has always been of paramount importance to us at Isuzu UTE Australia, and with standardised levels of safety and driver assistance technologies previously unseen in a ute, I am very pleased with the all-new D-MAX achieving the top safety rating against the newer, tougher testing criteria," he said.
