The Truck Industry Council’s T-Mark data is in for August and, while overall sales of new trucks and vans were essentially flat for the month compared to August last year, the market is still significantly up year to date.
A total of 3922 new trucks and vans were registered in August, which is down just 0.1% over the same month last year, while year to date a total of 31,498 vehicles have been sold. That’s up a solid 11.3% over the previous corresponding period, and means the industry is still on track to reach an all-time record, with potential to pass the high tide mark set in 2022.

In the overall figures, Isuzu leads the way with 9291 units sold year to date, followed by Hino with 3924 and Fuso with 3359.
A total of 1419 trucks were sold in the heavy-duty segment in August, the figure up 7.1% over the same month last year, pushing the year-to-date figure to 11,256 units – that’s up a whopping 20.9% over the previous corresponding period.

Isuzu dominates the medium-duty segment with 2632 units sold year to date, followed by Hino (1363) and Fuso (889).
The primary reason why sales were flat in August is due to the light-duty truck segment, with the 1272 units sold for the month equating to a significant drop of 11.2%. The year-to-date tally remains buoyant, however, with the 11,114 units sold thus far, a growth of 7.6%.
Isuzu leads the charge here with 5111 units, followed by Hino with 2049 and Fuso with 1978.

That leaves the light-duty van segment, where the 538 new vehicles sold for the month saw growth of 7.6% over August last year. The year-to-date tally, 3901 units, is up a hefty 13.1% over the previous corresponding period.
Mercedes-Benz vans leads this segment with 1732 units (TIC T-Mark data does not include sales data for LDV), followed by Volkswagen with 737 and Renault with 601.
