Ford answers Tesla with electric truck video

Ford has released a new video with an all-electric F-150 prototype towing a train to counter-punch Tesla’s claims

Following Elon Musk’s claims that his Tesla ute will be “more functional than a F-150”, Ford has hit back with its own prototype electric pick-up truck.

Ford relies heavily on the F-150 which is the biggest-selling vehicle in the US, and any threat to the F-150’s reign will almost certainly elicit a response from the Blue Oval.

So to obviously counter Musk’s claims, Ford has launched a video showing the electric F-150 towing a freight train that it claims weighs in at one million pounds or around 450,000kg.

The video features F-150 Chief Engineer Linda Zhang who has collected 42 good ol’ boys who own F-150s to feature in the stunt.

We’re not told what sort of electric motor(s) power the Ford but we’d be betting it would be borrowed from the Rivian R1T that Ford tipped about half a billion dollars into.

In the video, it’s alleged the electric ute pulls the train 300 metres, then they go back and do it all again with the 42 owners’ utes loaded into the train.

While Ford is obviously trying to protect its turf with the video, it’ll be interesting to see what happens when the production versions of the electric utes turn up…
