Ford Trucks and IVECO to co-develop new truck cab

The two companies have signed a joint development agreement to design and engineer a new cabin for heavy-duty trucks

Following on from a Memorandum of Understanding signed in March 2024, Ford Trucks – the heavy commercial division of Türkiye-based Ford Otosan – and IVECO have announced a Joint Development Agreement to collaborate on a new heavy-duty truck cabin.

The JDA signifies the next step in the two firms’ cooperation, which will see each manufacturing and assembling the new cabin in their respective production facilities by 2028. Each will apply its own customisation, resulting in brand-specific design and style elements.

Ford Trucks is Ford’s only heavy commercial brand, which is active in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Eurasia. Ford Otosan is the largest commercial vehicle manufacturer of Ford in Europe.

In a joint press release, IVECO and Ford Trucks said the new cabin will comply with the imminent EU Direct Vision Standard, offering enhanced aerodynamics for reduced carbon emissions, with a focus on cabin comfort, safety, and modularity. The cabin will also prioritise cost efficiency and will be fully compatible with all Ford Trucks and IVECO powertrains.

“Through this agreement and as a result of their joint effort, the two companies will attain a new top-line modular cabin family with state-of-the-art technology, far superior to the cabins previously planned, while fostering significant savings in investments,” the release states.

The joint expenditure of the two companies under the JDA is said to be Euro 343 million (approximately $A590 million).

Emrah Duman, Vice President of Ford Trucks, said the agreement would deliver large gains for both firms. “By joining forces with IVECO, we are enhancing our ability to deliver innovative, high-performance cabins that will set new benchmarks in safety, aerodynamics, and driver comfort, all while ensuring cost efficiency and regulatory compliance,” he said.

Meanwhile Luca Sra, President, Truck Business Unit, IVECO, said the collaboration would keep both companies’ products at the forefront. “By sharing engineering expertise and combining our strengths, we will create a product that sets new standards in safety, efficiency, quality and driver comfort,” he said.

“This agreement is a strategic move that will allow both IVECO and Ford Trucks to remain at the forefront of the market, well-prepared to comply with new regulations and deliver exceptional quality and value to our customers.”
