Foton drives e-truck charging network

Foton Mobility Distribution (FMD) and transport energy provider Ampol have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop reliable e-mobility charging infrastructure for electric trucks across Australia.

The partnership aims to deploy charging solutions across Ampol’s public AmpCharge network, as well as at commercial hubs and private depots. The initiative is specifically tailored to support FMD’s electric vehicle (EV) fleet, logistics, and business customers.

FMD, which operates the largest fleet of electric trucks in Australia, is pursuing the collaboration to address the growing demand for zero-emissions commercial vehicles.

Currently, many electric trucks rely on depot-based charging due to a lack of public infrastructure suitable for larger vehicles.

"The ability to venture further afield with confidence using Ampol’s public network would materially enhance the ownership experience," said FMD’s General Manager for Light Duty Trucks, Geoff Carroll.

He noted that ongoing compatibility testing between FMD’s vehicle fleet and the AmpCharge network represents the kind of industry collaboration required to eliminate barriers to widespread commercial EV adoption.

Ampol’s Head of Energy Business Solutions, Rebecca Wilson, said a total-solution approach combining infrastructure and vehicles is critical to simplifying the transition for heavy transport operators.

"Ampol remains committed to supporting the evolving transport energy needs of our business customers," Wilson said. "Working closely with FMD allows us to tailor our AmpCharge solutions to meet these unique demands."

The rollout will integrate Ampol’s expanding public EV charging network with customized workplace and depot charging systems to ensure commercial fleets can operate reliably nationwide.
