Foton Trucks Australia has introduced a new light-duty truck to the local market: the 65.115 Silverback.
Priced at $39,990 drive away, the model is powered by a 3.8-litre Cummins ISF common-rail turbo-diesel engine boasting a claimed 115kW and 500Nm, while its 4500kg GVM means it can be driven on a standard car licence.
The Euro-5-rated Cummins engine is mated with a ZF five-speed manual gearbox and features an SCR (selective catalytic reduction) system to reduce harmful emissions, while the truck is backed by free roadside assistance and a three-year, 160,000km warranty.
The truck comes ready to go with an aluminium drop-side tray measuring 4.5 metres long and 2.1 metres wide; the deck can handle up to three tonnes.
According to Alex Stewart, General Manager of Foton Trucks Australia, the arrival of the Silverback will simplify the buying decision for those stepping up from a ute or those who thought they could only afford a second-hand light-duty truck.
"The Silverback is ready to work without the complication and challenges of buying a bare cab chassis truck and having a tray or body fitted," he said.
"Buying a truck can be a daunting prospect for those who have never done it before so we have taken that challenge away and made it as easy as possible, and at a price that opposition brands will find hard to match."
A giant on the Chinese commercial vehicle landscape, Foton Trucks is said to have produced over five million vehicles since it was established in 1996. Foton claims it is the world's largest manufacturer of commercial vehicles and that it has been China's largest manufacturer of commercial vehicles for the last decade.
"With world-leading international driveline components from Cummins, ZF and Bosch, the Foton Silverback delivers an added element of confidence and peace of mind for buyers, adding to the attractiveness of the package," said Mr Stewart.
Foton trucks are distributed in Australia by Sydney-based firm, Ateco Automotive. The Foton Trucks Australia network currently comprises 22 dealerships, which can be found in every Australian state and territory.
Foton truck models span two cab widths, two engines, three wheelbases and GVMs from 4500km to 8500kg, with prices starting from $32,990 drive away.
