Fuso Canter recalled

Potential safety issue prompts recall of most models sold over six-and-a-half-year period…

The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission has released a safety recall for Fuso's light-duty truck, the Canter, which affects most models sold here between March 1, 2011, and November 30, 2017.

The issue prompting the recall concerns a wire connected to the truck's ECU, which in a particular type of frontal impact could be severed, thereby preventing the truck's airbag from deploying.

Daimler Truck & Bus Australia, Fuso's Australia's importer and distributor, has stressed that there is no issue with the airbag itself, which is supplied by Daicel Safety Systems.

"The simple fix requires technicians to move the wire slightly and secure it, a process estimated to take no more than 20 minutes," states a Daimler Truck & Bus media release.

Fuso has asked all owners with affected vehicles to call 1300 426 708 or visit www.fuso.com.au/dealers to contact their nearest authorised dealership, and make arrangements to have the issue rectified.
