Fuso eCanter ready for launch

The Fuso eCanter will launch in Australia in late March, with the brand's first volume-production all-electric truck recently concluding its local evaluation program.

The truck, which is Australia's first OEM all-electric model, has been racking up the kilometres here since the middle of 2020, the program following on from an extensive testing and validation process in Europe, the US, and Japan that commenced in 2017.

Fuso says the eCanter has since covered more than three million kilometres of real-world driving.

Here in Australia, key customers have trialed the eCanter with a pantech body – and have come away impressed with the capability of the zero-tailpipe-emissions truck.

The testing program recently saw the eCanter fully loaded to its 7500kg gross vehicle mass (GVM) and run around the clock, while data relating to charging was also closely monitored. Fuso says the eCanter performed strongly throughout, and was unfazed by Australian conditions.

"Our customers are very excited about the impending arrival of the eCanter," says Fuso Truck and Bus Australia Director, Alex Müller.

"They are pleased to be able to choose an all-electric truck that has been designed, developed, produced and locally tested by Fuso, which will be supporting the vehicle on the ground in Australia with our comprehensive dealership network."

Like all Canter 4x2 models, the eCanter is equipped with a long list of standard safety features including autonomous braking, lane departure warning, stability control, hill start assist, a reversing camera and driver and passenger airbags.

The Fuso eCanter will feature on the Daimler stand at the Brisbane Truck Show to be held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre from May 13 to 16.
