Fuso Fighter delivers in Dubbo

New Fighter is quickly racking up kilometres around central NSW

A new Fuso Fighter steel-delivery truck is going the distance for Metroll in rural New South Wales.

Metroll, a leading Australian manufacturer and supplier of roofing, cladding, rainwater, structural and fencing products, runs a fleet of trucks to meet the needs of their customers.

The new Fuso Fighter 2427 delivers products over distances of up to 300km in every direction from Dubbo.

It is a vast footprint and means the driver is spending a lot of time behind the wheel in very different terrain, from the hilly country of the Blue Mountains to the flatter regions of the central west.

Metroll Australia is a big customer of both Fuso Fighter and Canter models, which have proven themselves solid performers throughout the years.

Metroll Dubbo General Manager, Cary James, says that each Metroll location provides feedback on its various equipment including trucks to head office so that decisions can be made on product selection.

“The trucks are chosen on past performance,” he says. “The Fuso Fighter has done a great job for a long time, so we have stuck with it.”

The Metroll Dubbo team is very pleased with its new 2427 Fighter, which has now been on the road for around six months.

The truck was ordered through Hartwigs in Dubbo, which organised for the truck to be specified with a custom body designed for the delivery of metal products, including a Hiab crane that can be used to safely unload the cargo in compact delivery spaces.

It is rated to 23 tonnes and runs a 7.5-litre four-cylinder diesel that generates 270hp and 784Nm of torque. Metroll opted for the driver-friendly Allison automatic six-speed transmission, while a nine-speed Eaton manual transmission is also available.

Metroll Dubbo Logistics Manager, Rob Okros, says the Fighter earns its keep delivering its products.

“Out here in the bush we cover a fair amount of kilometres,” Mr Okros says.

“We go out 300km in every direction from Dubbo, so it gets a fair workout. It covers all kinds of terrain from around Dubbo and Orange to Bathurst, Oberon, Mudgee and the edge of the Blue Mountains.”

The Fighter warranty covers five years, 350,000km or 7000 hours, whichever occurs first. It also has class-leading 30,000km service intervals which helps to keep costs down.
