Volvo has announced its global deliveries took a hit in August, with a mixed bag of figures for individual markets leading to an overall drop of nine per cent compared with the corresponding month last year. Volvo delivered a total of 6939 trucks around the world for the month.
However, the Swedish behemoth's year-to-date figures remain buoyant, the 74,213 units delivered so far in 2014 equating with healthy growth of eight per cent.
The month of August saw drops of 10 per cent in Europe and a massive 40 per cent in South America. The fall was arrested to some degree by strong performance in North America, where deliveries grew by 31 per cent.
Volvo's year-to-date figures show North American deliveries have grown by 39 per cent, with 21,709 new Volvo trucks finding homes, while the 14,313 trucks delivered in South America represent a drop of 15 per cent.
In the biggest market, Europe, some 26,185 trucks have been delivered. That's overall growth of four per cent, with a slight drop in Eastern Europe taking the edge off a larger gain in Western Europe.
In Australia, Volvo had sold 835 trucks to the end of August, the figure representing a drop of 5.5 per cent over the previous corresponding period. Overall the Australian truck market was down by 2.6 per cent at the end of August (TIC data).
