Hartwigs unveils tipper and toolbox combo

Wagga-based truck dealership Hartwigs has come up with a neat solution for tool transport and security in a light-duty tipper, by packaging a Fuso Canter 515 single-cab tipper with its own chassis-mounted toolbox.

Equipment theft is a common issue these days and especially prevalent for tipper drivers, who are often left with little choice but to leave gear unsecured in the tipper itself, often with little more than a tarp over the top for security.

To help address the issue, Hartwigs has come up with a simple solution that gives workers a safe way to carry their tools without encroaching on the tipper's productivity.

At NSW's recent Henty Machinery Field Days, Hartwigs launched its 'Tradie Tipper' toolbox and tipper combination on a Fuso Canter 515 single-cab/chassis.

"There are currently trucks with toolboxes or trucks with tippers on the market, but not one with both," said Hartwigs sales rep, Paul Keane.

"With this, they get a tipper, a toolbox and a towbar in one package for under $60,000.

"Farmers, for example, can store their tools in the toolbox and hay in the tipper tray, which they can tip out when they need to."

The toolbox measures 1200 x 1400 x 2000mm and us supplied with a lock that allows operators to store their tools securely.

The Fuso Canter in question has a GVM of 4495kg, meaning operators can drive it on a car license.

"It's a good-size truck without being too big, and is able to carry out a range of jobs," Keane said.

The toolbox features several sturdy shelves that can be moved around to accommodate the operator's needs.

"If customers want a socket in there, we can wire an inverter in to convert 12V to 240V so they can charge up their tools," Keane said.

"Our bull bars are four-post bull bars – not tube bars – so they're a lot stronger and are all made in-house at Hartwigs."

The Fuso Canter 515 features independent front suspension and a sprung driver's seat for driver comfort.

Hartwigs offers a five-year/200,000km factory warranty with the vehicle, while Keane said the toolbox-tipper combo can by modified to suit individual needs.

"We can do a bigger tray and smaller toolbox or vice versa, depending on requirements," Keane said.

"We can even do a dual-cab version, but we need the enquiry to come in first before we build more configurations."
