The importance of health will be in the spotlight at the upcoming Trucking Australia 2014 conference, where Linfox Asia-Pacific’s Group Manager, Safety and Sustainability, Andrew Niven (pictured), will highlight his strategies for tackling this key issue.
A supporter of Linfox’s ZERO strategy (where the firm targets five key safety goals: zero fatalities, zero injuries, zero motor vehicle incidents, zero net environmental emissions and zero tolerance of unsafe behaviours), Niven will be a keynote speaker at the conference, which will be hosted by the Australian Trucking Association (ATA) at Hamilton Island over June 6-7.
There he’ll be promoting the benefits of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, the importance of early recognition and treatment of serious illness, and the positive impact of providing a supportive environment for mental health.
Niven says much of his outlook comes down to the simple matter of choice.
“We are at the crossroads every day – our people, our industry, each one of us,” he says.
“For me, that crossroads is what I eat or don’t eat, what exercise I do or don’t do, what medical checks I do or delay.
“At Trucking Australia 2014, I’ll be going over some of the ways we can start instigating this change towards better health and wellbeing. Ultimately, any change starts with us.”
The conference will also see Niven help lead a forum to workshop effective strategies to promote health and wellbeing in the truck industry and highlight areas in need of improvement. The ATA says the resulting ideas to come out of the forum will help it prioritise its lobbying, research and communications as it tailors its ongoing strategic plan.
This year’s conference will also feature a chain of responsibility ‘masterclass’ and a session to help delegates apply the lessons learned at Trucking Australia 2014 to their respective businesses.
In addition to several valuable workshops the conference will also provide a variety of excellent networking opportunities, such as the Kenworth Legends Luncheon, the BPW Transpec barbecue, and the ATA Foundation Sponsors Gala Awards Dinner, the latter also showcasing the National Trucking Industry Awards.
Delegate registration for Trucking Australia 2014 is $475 while four-star accommodation is available at a discounted event rate of $270 per night.
