Heavy vehicle blitz in SA

Over 40 defect notices were handed out plus drug charges and unlicensed drivers

South Australian Police from the Road Policing Section, along with inspectors from the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure and National Heavy Vehicle Regulator have conducted a joint operation yesterday (April 4) focusing on truck safety.

The operation was conducted for nearly five hours on Churchill Road North at Dry Creek, with 22 expiation notices issued (17 fines, five cautions) for various offences including unsecure loads and licence breaches.

Forty-one defects were issued, with 22 defects being classed as major. Four drivers tested positive to drugs, and two were reported for driving unlicensed. One severe load restraint breach was also reported.

SA Police said in a press statement that it will “continue to work with other road agencies to ensure heavy vehicles are compliant with the road rules, and to make the roads safe for all drivers”.
