Truck industry identity Jon Kelly, owner and Managing Director of Queensland-based transport company Heavy Haulage Australia, recently placed an order with Mack for 40 new trucks.
“It’s the largest number of trucks to be purchased in a single order by any heavy haulage company in the country,” says Kelly.
The order takes HHA to the next stage in its rapid and continued expansion. Thirty-three-year-old Kelly founded HHA with one truck in 1999, but in the years since it’s expanded to over 70 trucks and 140 staff. The 40 new trucks will join the HHA fleet over the course of 2014 and 2015.
Kelly, who also stars in the Australian pay TV series MegaTruckers, says Mack was the logical option.
“I take pride in having the best presented trucks in the country and I like my fleet to be nice, shiny and reliable – that’s why I chose Mack,” he says.
“Having [Mack distribution centre] VCV Brisbane close to our head office is also convenient. The trucks are built right here in Brisbane by local employees, so I know they have been designed to handle Australia’s extreme conditions,” he adds.
Kelly also recently took delivery of a new rig for his personal use: a Mack Titan . It’s a heavy-duty monster Kelly has customised to his usual standard, and is pictured here receiving some pin-striping at HHA (source: Facebook).
“I buy a new truck for myself every five years and I like to give them all their own identity,” says Kelly.
“Titans are tough trucks and my new truck, which I’ve named Big Dog 5, is no exception.”
According to Dean Bestwick, Mack’s Vice President, Sales, the rig is a top-shelf bit of gear.
“Big Dog 5 is as powerful as they come, with a 685hp MP10 engine – it’s the most powerful conventional truck on the Australian market,” he says.
“It’s also been fitted with the biggest axle and engine available to Australian Mack customers,” he adds.
