Founded in 2004, High Access Group has grown steadily over the years and now has over 100 pieces of machinery comprising cherry pickers, scissor lifts, boom lifts and travel towers, among others.
The Melbourne-based company operates up and down Australia's east coast and into South Australia, offering its high-altitude expertise to councils, road authorities, major telecommunications companies, window-cleaning operations and more.
Company owners, brothers John and Michael Newton, say the firm has enjoyed considerable success with its fleet of MAN travel tower trucks, and has just ordered a further two MANs – a TGS 6x6 and a TGS 8x8 – to complement the four existing MAN models.
Those four vehicles comprise two TGM 6x4 trucks fitted with 46-metre-high towers and two TGM 4x4 models, one with a 40-metre tower and one with a 33-metre tower.
"There were a lot of reasons why we selected MAN for this role," says John.
"Firstly, they had an excellent reputation and importantly the travel tower manufacturer had MAN as the preferred platform. Their adaptability to the intricate requirements of the travel tower machinery was also very good."
High Access Group's MAN trucks are fitted with Ruthmann towers, which are assembled in Germany before being sent to Australia for final pre-delivery.
"Ruthmann towers are high-tech, adaptable and strong yet lightweight, which gives them the ability to reach higher and further from the same platform," says John.
High Access Group turned to Tony Lamanna of Melbourne MAN dealer Patterson Cheney to co-ordinate the delivery. John says Patterson Cheney smoothed the entire process, while the 24-hour service facility was another drawcard.
John says the MAN trucks offer good fuel economy given their weight and the nature of their work, while the feedback from his drivers has also been highly favourable.
"We try and keep one driver for each truck and the drivers certainly love the MANs – in particular the cab comfort, quietness and overall ergonomics," he says.
