Hino Australia has announced an expansion of its 700 Series lineup, with new models arriving in October that will open up untapped segments of the heavy truck market for the manufacturer.
The expanded 700 Series range will include 11 new models, taking the total number of variants to 31, and with higher Gross Combination Mass (GCM) ratings the models appeal to a broader array of customers and applications.
“The 700 Series range now offers a solution for almost any heavy-duty application with 11 additional models on sale from October,” said Daniel Petrovski, Hino Australia’s Manager of Product Strategy.
New 700 Series models include the nine-litre FH1836 4x2, FS2636 6x4 and FY3036 8x4, as well as two FS2845 models that feature Hino’s 13-litre engine. All models benefit from a new in-house-developed 12-speed automated manual transmission (AMT).
The nine-litre engine produces peak power of 360hp and 1569Nm of torque, while the larger 13-litre unit produces 450hp and 3268Nm of torque.
Both engines are Euro 6 compliant, featuring a combination of Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR), Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR), and Hino’s Diesel Particulate Active Reduction Filter (DPR).
Hino’s new 12-speed AMT, which was adapted from its tried-and-tested 12-speed manual gearbox, will be available on all of the new models but customers will also have the choice of an Allison or ZF transmission.
“With its wide gear ratio and selection spread, the two-pedal 12-speed AMT will be an excellent choice for heavy rigid operations in extra urban and regional applications,” said Mr Petrovski.
“With the addition of the new AMT models, Hino will now offer multiple two-pedal options for our 300hp-plus heavy-duty customers with Allison 4440 and Allison 3200 true automatic transmissions, plus the Hino M112 and ZF TraXon automated manual transmission variations.”
The new models will be available with a choice of either leaf spring or airbag drive axle suspensions, with a range of wheelbase options to suit a range of body styles and applications.
According to Hino, the new 12-speed AMT allows for an increased GCM of 45 tonnes, up from 36 tonnes, which will fill a gap in the tipper market within industries like municipal and civil works.
“The FS2845 is available with an airbag or leaf-spring drive axle and will fill a gap in the market for council tippers and/or civil works customers that require regular towing of a pig or dog trailer,” said Mr Petrovski.
“We’ll be able to get into more of these applications, and council tippers we see as a big one, because the 12-speed gives us more GCM.”
The 700 Series is an important model for Hino Australia because it’s already Euro 6 compliant, while the medium-duty 500 Series and light-duty 300 Series face production stop-gaps as they transition to Euro 6.
Hino has previously outlined that production of its Euro 6 500 Series will commence in October 2026, with the 700 Series offering a solution for some of its customers, while the 300 Series Hybrid – which is already Euro 6 – offers a cleaner like-for-like alternative for light truck buyers.
When asked about production timing for the diesel 300 Series Euro 6 models, Hino Australia President and CEO, Richard Emery, provided clarity around when we can expect to see the updated models.
“Like the 500 Series, we will have a gap in production here, as the work is completed on ADR 80/04,” he said.
“We currently have production and stock of the current specification in Euro 5 that should support our sales program for all of this year and into early next year, but production of the Euro 6-spec 300 Series will not start until July 2026.
“In a practical sense that’s going to mean we’ll be out of 300 Series stock for four or five months in 2026.”
