Hino fleet recycles for Sydney company

The durability, reliability and low running costs of Hino trucks has made them the go-to vehicles for a long-standing recycling company on Sydney's northern beaches.

Cozens Paper Recycling, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary at the same time as Hino Australia runs a Hino-only fleet for its 20,000 tonnes-per-year paper and plastic collection business.

The company's fleet consists of two 500 Series FMs with rear loaders, a 300 Series 916 tray back with tailgate and 700 Series FY with rear loader.

The Hino fleet is in operation seven days a week and each truck can be in use for up to 12 hours per day while servicing high profile companies including Woolworths, Avon and Fuji Xerox.

Owner and Managing Director Michael Cozens said his Hino trucks were attractive when new due to their pricing and specification, and have proven to be reliable and cost-effective ever since.

"Downtime is the enemy in this industry, and we haven't had any problems with our Hinos since we got our first one over 10 years ago," Mr Cozens said.

"Our original 500 Series FM has done 440,000 kilometres and many hours in traffic, and it's bulletproof.

"With its large oil capacity, the engine is perfect for low-revving work and it runs quietly, which is important when operating in urban areas.

"The brakes on our Hino trucks have outlasted those on our old trucks by around three to one," Mr Cozens said.

Mr Cozens said his Hino fleet provides a good working environment for his team of seven drivers.

"The trucks are comfortable and the drivers are all happy with them," he said. 

"They have good air conditioning and other comfort features and get used all day, every day."
